    A Mohawk Council of Akwesasne district chief has allegedly been charged with impaired driving while away on an MCA business trip on March 24, 2009 in Ontario. Chief Nona Benedict of the Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island) district has not yet been to court over the incident. Indian Time met with her last week to discuss the incident, but she declined to publicly comment at this time.     Every year pre-kindergarten through grade 6 students at the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School take part in a decades long tradition: Competing in the Tom Longboat Run. Students are split up by grade and gender and they’re challenged to complete the run as fast as they can.     A 5-mile walk/run was organized in Akwesasne and held Sunday morning in Tsi Snaihne (Snye) to support the Akwesasne Cancer Support Group. An astounding 76 registered walkers and runners turned out for the first-time event and the pledges they collected raised more than $10,000.     The community of Akwesasne will come together Friday morning on Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island) for a unity rally that is in part intended to send a message to Government Canada that Mohawks are against the arming of border guards.     The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education (AMBE) administration and school personnel participated in the Big Bike for Heart and Stroke on April 24, 2009 in the district of Kana:takon.
