AKWESASNE – On Onerahtókha/April 24, 2017; the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe held a formal groundbreaking of a new 54,700-square-foot Tribal Administration Building at 71 Business Park Road in Akwesasne. On Thursday, April 20, 2017, the residents and staff at Iakhihsohtha Lodge held a luncheon for the volunteers to show our appreciation for all they do for the residents. Elders at the St. Regis Seniors Center were treated last weekend to some great music from one of our own local performers. The River Mohawks were there to play up the release of their "Shine On! Shine On!" CD. They played country music standards that local fans have been listening to for years; Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, James Taylor and others were performed as the seniors got up to dance. These Life Chiefs were known as the Rotinonkwiseres, which means "They Have Long hair." These men were chosen by the Clanmothers, as is tradition among the Haudenosaunee.
