    St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Animal Control Officer Derek Comins is puzzled by the disappearance of the wolf-dog hybrid captured on Monday March 30th in Akwesasne. “As I do every day, I stopped in to check on him and feed him on Sunday around 6:30 PM and he was fine,” stated Comins. “But when I arrived at work on Monday morning, I found that the lock had been cut off and he was not in the cage.” Comins reported the missing hybrid to the St. Regis Mohawk Police, but exactly what happened to the hybrid is not clear. “If somebody simply let him out o...

    A determined pair of Anishinaabe grandmothers passed through Akwesasne on Friday, April 17th as they complete the final leg of their seven-year journey to the Atlantic Ocean.     Chief Judge PJ Herne of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Court recently made a recommendation to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council to begin the process to establish a Tribal Child Support Enforcement Unit here on the territory. Over the past 11 months, the Tribal Court has conducted exhaustive research reviewing numerous social welfare issues that would be associated with the establishment and operation of a Tribal Family Court. Fishcat’s, a short-order food counter, has a long history but was only brought off-reserve a year ago. REGIS MOHAWK TRIBE – A ten-page document acquired by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe describes the acquisition of Barnhart and Baxter Islands from the Akwesasne Community and the non-payment of rent. The unsigned document, dated January 1, 1851 has a stamp from the Massachusetts law firm of Owen and Hurlbut. How the document connects to the law firm is not clear.     Sunday, April 18th was the feast day of Kateri Tekakwitha and this was celebrated at the 10:30 mass in Kahnawake. The Knights of Columbus, including Charles Jacobs and Orlo Ransom from Akwesasne, lead the procession.
