With lacrosse season comes fundraising season and with barbecue dinners comes delicious ribs. The family of Drew Shenandoah held a barbecue rib dinner last weekend on Route 37 in Hogansburg. The Indian Time reporter received a batch of ribs for his effort and they were mouth-watering; however, because it was Good Friday, he had an agonizing wait until Saturday to enjoy the feast. The event was to raise money for the now underway minor lacrosse season for Shenandoah. Photo by Derrick...

# 5 Go Vegan or Vegetarian for the Day If you’re already a vegetarian or vegan then this might not be for you, but if you eat meat then this is something that you can do that will make a staggering difference. Both raising beef and the pesticides used are major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, not to mention meat’s harmful impact on your health. For one day, why not try eating a delicious vegan or vegetarian meal. If you keep an open mind you’ll be surprised how delicious it can be. If you’re not confident about your own cooking...
What Is Distracted Driving? Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system—anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving. You cannot drive safely unless the task of driving has your full attention. Any non-driving activity you engage in is a potential distraction and increases your risk of crashing. Current New York State law includes t...
Submitted by Vanessa Adams, Program Coordinator, Seven Dancers Coalition Have you ever heard others or even yourself saying things like "Everyone drinks to have a good time," "It's easier to meet people when I'm drinking" or that "I only feel comfortable talking to new people after a few drinks?" How about "I don't even remember leaving the bar," "What happened last night?" These statements are scary and it becomes easy to place blame or judgment on victims of alcohol related sexual assault or r...
Beer should no longer flow in Whiteclay, Nebraska state regulators have decided. The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission decided Wednesday to deny licenses to the four beer stores in the alcohol-soaked outpost in northwest Nebraska. The small town is only a few miles from from the dry Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Commissioners voted unanimously, 3-0, to deny the licenses. “This is not a place that can exist any longer,” said commission Chairman Bob Batt of Omaha, who moved to deny the licenses. “This is not a place that can exist as a purve...

NASA invites people around the world to help us celebrate Earth Day 2017 by "adopting" one of 64,000 individual pieces of Earth as seen from space. NASA continually looks outward to find and learn about planets in our solar system and beyond, but no planet is better studied than the one we actually live on. Our fleet of 18 Earth science missions in space, supported by aircraft, ships and ground observations, measure aspects of the environment that touch the lives of every person around the...
Date: Sunday, April 23, 2017 Time: 1:30 p.m. Where: Cornwall Public Library This beautiful film “Intelligent Trees” will astound you with the latest science about how trees actually communicate with each other, learn from and protect each other. We tend to take trees for granted yet they provide the very air we breathe and are a source of building material for our homes, provide shade and beauty on our streets and are even a source of inspiration for artists. Trees are proving to be ever more important as we confront climate change, and fac...
Reprinted with permission from WalletHub Apr 18, 2017. Eco-friendliness and personal finance are essentially cousins. Not only are our environmental and financial necessities aligned - providing ourselves with sustainable, clean drinking water and nutritious sustenance, for example - but we also spend money on both the household and government levels in support of environmental security. Then there's climate change. We've already seen a rise in powerful land-bearing storm systems and extreme...
# 3 Clean Out Your Closet and Donate to a Charity It may not always be so obvious, but manufacturing new clothing requires both energy and water, and there are many people who don’t have money to buy their own. So this Earth Day, why not clean out your overstuffed closet and then donate those t-shirts and shorts you haven’t worn in years to a local charity. Not only will this make you feel good about lightening your load, but the people who receive your lightly used clothing will so thankful you’ll wonder if it’s Christmas and not Earth D...
