Club members of the St. Regis Mohawk Seniors may not be a child by definition but they’re all kids at heart. That’s thanks in part to the Center’s purchase of a Nintendo Wii. Every Tuesday morning training is offered to the members and guests at the Center. The Wii – a new game console by Nintendo – is an innovate approach to video gaming. Players stand in front of the television and make hand and body motions the same way they would if they were playing the sport in “real life.” This past Thu...

By Barbara Gray Did you know that dogs are related to wolves? Even your tiny miniature poodle, the dachshund, and the pug had wolf ancestors. The Inuit have a story about an elder who had to try to survive alone in extreme cold weather, so she turned into a wolf. Other tribes in the west honor the wolf as a spiritual animal. The medicine societies of the Makah and Quilete Indians perform wolf dances to heal the sick. There are two main species of wolves: The Grey Wolf (Canis Lupus) k...
We got called to a grass fire down on the point and we headed down there with the fire truck and our brush truck, a six wheeled monstrosity dubbed a “gamma goat”. We were at the end of a new road and could see the fire off in the fields. We jumped in the brush truck and we headed off into the field to put the fire out. We were going good until we slowed to a crawl and stopped suddenly. By the spray of mud coming off of all six wheels we knew we were stuck. We hopped out and grabbed a couple Indian Tanks, five gallon tanks strapped on our bac...
This winter Baby T learned to animal watch. We are lucky enough to have a wood line a rock’s throw from our back porch. I’ve lived here as a kid so I know how many animals run through these parts and though it may not be a lot to some it is to us. We get to see them almost on a daily basis. And feeding them is a little routine of ours. Small bits of bread, lettuce and vegetable peelings are what we bring to the edge of the woods. We’ll get the chance to watch Squirrels fight over a piece of toast. And try to catch the rabbits eat since they...
