    Members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe voted Saturday to continue with the current 3-chief and 3-sub-chief system, rather than adopting a new Council structure of six chiefs. The referendum was held as part of the SRMT’s ongoing effort to improve the existing structure of the tribal government. “It was important to give the tribal membership a say in whether the three chief system should be expanded to a six-chief system,” said Tribal Chief James W.     A committee is organizing a dinner and tribute to the former students of the St. Regis Island School – a turn-of-the-century one-room schoolhouse that closed in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The school provided an elementary education to Mohawks living on St. Regis Island, and at one time the island was lived on by many families.     The Cornwall Community Police Service has made an arrest in the alleged murder of a five-year-old girl at her home in the city of Cornwall.     Dayna Green represented the AMBE (Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education) at the American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) Science Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 26 - 29th. She is a grade 6 student at the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School.
