(March 13, 2017) New York State’s high school student smoking rate in 2016 was the lowest on record at 4.3 percent, down from 27.1 percent in 2000. The Akwesasne Kahwatsi:re Genealogy & Historical Society is hosting a commemorative feast to honour the Akwesasronon who went to Residential Schools. A Citation Plaque will be presented to show our support and appreciation for their perseverance during that time. As the residential school era was a historical event that our people were part of, we felt an honouring should take place.
