** The Haudenosaunee representatives returned from the working meeting in Edmonton, Alberta that was held the week of March 7th. The Mohawk delegate Howard Thompson, Wolf Clan, stated the meeting was productive. The Working Group representing Indigenous Nations of the America completed an outline of what needs to be in the document and flushed out some of the points. A break in wintry weather gave us the chance to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. Big Brother has been able to come in and out as he pleases all winter, being a big kid who can zipper his jacket, adjust his ski pants and tie his own shoes. This spring he’s even become so conscious of how muddy his boots get when he’s out in the yard exploring. He’ll take them off right on the porch and leave them outside until the mud dries off. The St. Lawrence Thunder Bantam hockey team captured the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Tier II Bantam 14 & under championships this past weekend March 12 – 14, 2010 in Freeport Long Island, NY. The team consists of players from Akwesasne, Malone, Massena, Potsdam and Canton. Cory Garrow, a goaltender from Akwesasne, is a member of the team. On Saturday, March 13, the Akwesasne Soaring Eagles Volleyball Club hosted its first preliminary tryout for the 2010 Native Inter-band Games. Approximately twenty participants attended and registered. There will be two more identification tryout camps, April 24th and May 22nd location & time to be announced. The 2010 Native Inter-band Games are scheduled for July 4th-11th in Mistiisini and will be used as playdowns for teams to qualify to represent at the North American Indigenous Games in Wisconsin. On Sunday March 14th, the Akwesasne Atom B team participated in the Alexandria Glens Tournament. First Game was at 9 am playing against Hawksbury. Akwesasne tied with a 2-2 score.
