Healing the human body with a beam of light seems like a scene from some futuristic movie, but light has become an effective way to treat just about everything. "Come to the light" is a phrase Virginia (Ginnie) O'Brien tells people in her business. "Seven years ago I was in a great deal of pain when I came across Deep Penetrating Light (DPL) light therapy. After doing some research I purchased it and it has worked great for me and my family," says Ginnie. Ginnie lives in Onondaga with her...
Thinking of donating to crowdfunding website? We have learned from Akwesasne’s recent tragedy how crowdfunding websites can make a difference, in a very good way. When tragedy struck and equipment was needed, a friend stepped up and opened a crowdfunding site and raised the money needed to buy a high tech camera in which the entire community benefits. Crowdfunding has three components; the project initiator who proposes the idea or project, the individual or group who supports it and the platform that brings all parties together. It is the prac...
There was a time when the people of the earth first began to experience death. Death visited at close intervals and families were taken up with burying their dead. They would dig a hole in the ground and place their loved one in the ground and cover them with earth. This continued for some time and it became so frequent that within the families (ohwa:tsire) even those who were not sick would lie as if life was broken off from them. This death took not only adults but also children. Everyone was in continuous grief and this continues day after...

Paul Hetzler, Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County Every winter I teach several tree identification classes to Biology students. Cold or colder, it’s always outdoors, but if student evaluations are on the level, it’s always fun. Demonstrating how to tell one leaf-bereft hardwood from another on is one thing; explaining why they should bother is trickier. The short answer is, “It’s on the test.” Beyond that, there are more interesting and practical reasons. If you’re camping, lost or stranded—or all of the above—you can get safe...

"And they lived happily ever after" is the ending that we have heard at the end of most fairy tales as we were growing up. What exactly does that mean? For most of us, we would assume that our heroes lived the rest of their lives in peaceful, prosperous kingdoms. No enemies, witches, giants, wicked stepmothers or bad spells cast upon them. They enjoy perfect health and untroublesome life. The real questions are... what happens after Cinderella finds her Prince? What happens when Little Red...

By Jennifer Herne, LVT We are getting closer to Spring each day now, my cat is starting to go outside more often but the last month or so she hasn't been going outside very much. I knew she wasn't suffering anything medical and then it dawned on me, does she...
