    (February 18 2014) On February 12, 2014 at approximately 12:50 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a larceny at the Hogansburg Fire Department on State Route 37, in Bombay. 24-year-old Ryan J. McDonald, of Hogansburg, was arrested for stealing $5,985.31 from the Hogansburg Fire Department by cashing checks made out to himself and forging the signatures of other members. Four groups of three students were chosen to go to the regional finals in Syracuse for the Ying Tri Region Science & Engineering Fair (Ying TRSEF) on March 22nd and 23rd.     On Thursday, Iakhihsohtha was honored to host the Opening Ceremonies for the 2014 Akwesasne Winter Carnival. Ceremonies were kicked off with the crowning of five queens, one from each clan.     Blizzard conditions and work delays didn't stop members of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe from duking it out.     On Saturday night a Fashion/Hairstyling Show was held in the Snye Rec gym as part of the 2014 Akwesasne Winter Carnival. The show was coordinated by Katy Tarbell with help from several partners. Before the show began, Tara Tarbell of The Indigenous Spa did a presentation on a Bio Slimming Body Wrap.     On Friday night, the Snye Rec gym was filled with people awaiting some great singing from people of all ages.     On Saturday morning, as part of the 2014 Akwesasne Winter Carnival, Iohahiio was host to MCA Environmental Presentations. The Tehotiiennawakon Environment Program includes four divisions: Environment, Emergency Measures, Economic Development and the Anowarakowa Arena.   • Akwesasne Man's Death Being Investigated by Tribal Police

    Akwesasne NY - The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department is investigating the death of Jacob L. Stehlin, 22, of 149 Helena Road, Hogansburg, New York. Police report they responded to Mr. Stehlin’s residence on February 19, 2014 at 12:32 pm. The Franklin County Coroner pronounced Stehlin deceased at the scene. As of this time, no cause of death has been reported. No further investigation details are available....
