An elderly Akwesasne woman was killed Tuesday evening when a volunteer firefighter responding to an emergency call t-boned her vehicle as she was turning into or driving out of her daughter’s driveway on Cook Road in Akwesasne. The Drug Enforcement Agency has identified Randy Square and Dave “Snookty” Sunday as the alleged ring leaders of a marijuana operation responsible for the transport of more than $100 million worth of the drug from Canada into the U.S. via Akwesasne. The movie “Frozen River” features exceptional acting by Melissa Leo worthy of her Oscar nomination. But it is not a great movie. Its setting is on an unnamed Mohawk reservation located astride the St. Lawrence River.
