Passing on Knowledge through traditional ecological knowledge is the way our native ancestors have kept alive the Original Instructions given to us by the Creator. I remember my Tota telling me when I was really very young that when you could see the white undersides of a tree’s leaves, it was going to rain within several hours. When I see the whitish undersides of leaves, I think of the rain my Tota predicted, and it has never to this day failed to happen. Before the technology to predict weather was developed, people had to rely on obser...
Is it possible to fall in love in less then a week? Well if you are a little skeptical, once you read this book and witness the emotions that Nicholas Sparks bestows on you, you will think otherwise. He really is my favorite author. Adrienne Willis has been divorced for a few months, as has Paul Flanner. When Paul comes to Rodanthe on business, he stays at the Bed & Breakfast that Adrienne is watching for a friend who is out of town. They connect almost instantly without realizing it or wanting to. They soon find they can tell each other...
I wrote about Baby T’s best quotes a while back when he was much younger. I caught myself laughing at him one day and thought I should write down his quotes again. Some of his most used sayings have gotten a bit longer than just three word phrases. 1. “Ugh, no you do it.” This is to anything. I could ask his dad to turn off a light and Baby T will say, “No, you do it.” 2. “Aww cute.” This is accompanied by a scrunched up face. He’s talking about a baby, a kitten, something on TV. 3. “It’s getting dark out.” What he really means is, “Turn on som...
During the formative years of the fire department some traditions were slipping away slowly but surely and for the good. One of those traditions that went away was that of firefighters riding the tailboard of the fire truck to get to the scene. This tradition goes back to the really old days of the fire service when the firefighters rode on a horse drawn steam engine. The purpose of firefighters riding on the fire engine was to shovel coal and get the boiler going enroute to the fire so it would build a head of steam and be ready to pump water....
