    Kanatakon, Akwesasne - This past Thursday, January 26, 2017 the Mohawk Express and North Franklin Boys and Girls 5/6th Grade Teams squared off for games at Kanatakon School. It was the first time in several years that Kanatakon School hosted competitive basketball, going back to the days of the Alex Garrow Memorial Tournaments of years past.     The game came down to literally the last second. The South Stormont Selects Peewee "B"s came to the Anowarako:wa Arena on January 25 and almost went home with a tie but the host Akwesasne Wolves pulled off the win 5-4. Kyden Burns scored twice in the win while Richard Thompson, Camrin King and Carsten Mitchell scored one each.     The Akwesasne Wolves Bantams had a huge five goal third period on the way to a 9-1 win over the Cornwall Colts Bantams. Aiden Peters and Vance Adams scored two each in the win. Single goals came from Stone Chubb, Khyler Johnson, Kyren Lazore and Rowennaskats Porter. Tsiorahkwahse Benedict, Treyton Sunday and Iate Thomas collected one assist each.     Both local teams, the Ice Pigs and Chiefs, continued their winning ways last weekend at the Massena Arena. The Ice Pigs played back-to-back games and won both.     Last week the Akwesasne Atom "B" team pulled off a squeaker 2-1 win over the NGS Braves. Kinley Rourke of the Wolves finally connected in the second period to open the scoring. In that scoreless first period Rourke had two big chances but missed. The Braves tied the game early in the third and late in the third Otsi Benedict scored the game-winning goal with Rourke picking up the assist. This game was played at the Anowarako:wa Arena....

    The Massena varsity boy's hockey team recently went on a three-game win streak, the girls varsity team earned a playoff spot, and the boys and girls basketball squads and the wrestling team lost several matches. The boys hockey team's streak started on Jan. 25, where they bested Potsdam 4-2. Potsdam's Jack Brady scored the opening goal 11:55 into the contest, assisted by Carter Brown.
