I have to thank the staff at Kateri Hall and the caring staff from Donaldson’s Funeral Home. Thank you to Father Belgarde, Sister Chr...

  • Senior Moments

    Rosemary Bonaparte|Jan 27, 2011

Sometimes people don’t realize how much they are appreciated. I thought this would be a good time to say thank you to the Construction Workers we have in this community. Many of them were in New York City on 9-11. Last night I was watching Piers Morgan interviewing Mayor Rudy Giuliani of New York City and the topic was September ll, 2001. The Mayor was talking about 9-ll and how this was the worse day of his life. He talked of how he thought it couldn’t get any worse, then it did. When both of the buildings were down he was in the deepest des...

  • Mohawk Territorial Claims: The Need to Act

    Doug George Kanentiio|Jan 27, 2011

The owners of the Twin Leaf convenience stores need to have the active support of all Akwesasronon in their struggle to regain active Mohawk jurisdiction in an area which is clearly part of our territory. As a former land claims negotiator for the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs I was an outspoken advocate for the assertion of our territorial rights as I felt it was a mistake to leave this critical matter to a legal system which has had little sympathy, and even less understanding of, the need for our people to have our stolen lands returned...

Carry ice picks and make sure they are accessible. Alwa...

  • Importance of Aftercare in Addiction Treatment

    Jan 27, 2011

Successful completion of a treatment program for addiction is a huge step on the road to recovery. But for most addicts, regardless of their type of addiction (drugs, alcohol, combination of drugs and alcohol, co-occurring disorder, gambling, eating, spending or sexual disorder), they’re not completely ready to function independently. They have fulfilled an important and essential part of their goal to overcome their addiction, namely the treatment program, but they still require ongoing support for some period of time. This critical phase i...

  • Safety Tips for the Home

    Jan 27, 2011

Submitted by Norman Peters From The United States Fire Administration on Winter Fire Safety The high cost of home heating fuels and utilities have caused many Americans to search for alternate sources of home heating. The use of woodburning stoves is growing and space heaters are selling rapidly, or coming out of storage. Fireplaces are burning wood and manmade logs. All these methods of heating may be acceptable. They are, however, a major contributing factor in residential fires. Many of these fires can be prevented. The following fire...

Correction RE: Carbon Dioxide (C02) & Carbon Monoxide (CO) In the MCA Department of Environment’s last article in the January 13, 2011 issue of Indian Time and in MCA Today a couple of errors were made. The biggest mistake was about carbon monoxide (CO) & carbon dioxide (CO2). The HAVFD noted that my reference to carbon dioxide was wrong. The HAVFD hands out free carbon monoxide (CO) detectors and not carbon dioxide (CO2) detectors. Carbon monoxide is the Silent Killer. They advised that residents should leave their homes immediately and do n...
