Niawenhko:wa On January 6, 2008, my Mom passed away. She had been living with kidney failure for the past four years. At first she did not want any of her children to know her condition. She kept it to herself-not wanting any of her children to worry or fuss over her. Which is exactly what we did in an effort to keep her with us for as long as we selfishly could. We almost lost her a couple of times in the last two years, but she came back to us. Rallied, if you will, by all the love that her...

Letter to the editor: Doug George’s January 17, 2008 editorial had the potential to engage the community in a positive civic discourse on an important issue, gaming in the Catskills. We welcome the opportunity to have a healthy exchange of information on the subject. However, Mr. George did a great disservice to your readers, instead muddying the waters with his personal bias against gaming in general and the Catskills in particular. George twists the truth to conjure up fears and falsehoods about the Monticello project. It is unfortunate w...

There is a rare phenomenon that occurs in the winter, and if you are lucky, you may get to see “snow rollers”. Snow rollers are so rare many professional meteorologists may never, for their entire life, see them. At this time, snow is easily compacted. About an inch or so of loose, wet snow must accumulate, an...
This is the first book by this author that I have read, but judging on how good this book is I would read more. Lolly Winston can make a story seem likely and relatable. This book shows how a person deals with the loss of someone so close to them. Sophie Stanton is an emotional wreck. Her husband has just died and she feels like she should be dead as well and that life isn’t the same without him. Ethan, her husband, is gone, yet Sophie does not want to believe it and she’s comfortable thinking he’s only on a business trip. After going into work...

Ever since Baby T first got his toddler bed he’s been back and forth between our bed and his. At first he liked sleeping in his own bed. We put it right next to our bed and he would proudly jump under the covers and get comfortable. That lasted a few months until he would fall asleep in his bed and come into ours during the night. We have never minded that he sleeps with us. I would rather he did during the winter months anyway. I don’t have to worry that he has no covers on and could be getting cold. Eventually he stopped using his bed and...
