  • To the people of Kahwenoke:

    Nov 12, 2009

To the people of Kahwenoke: Nov. 9, 2009 Appeals once again! Why? Once again you, the community, have been denied a fair election process. The By-election that took place on November 7, 2009 was a sham. The Kahwenoke people have been taken for a ride, again! Why an appeal? In a nutshell, it is because the Court decision made on October 6th 2009 called for a By-election and Kahwenoke “Chiefs” remained in office when the Election Law clearly stated they must resign to be eligible to run again and not one minute, one hour or one day before the...

  • Season of Change

    Nov 12, 2009

This fall season has been very exciting. The 6 Nations will gather this week to hold up and reinforce the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua, a contract negotiated at the request of the young United States. In those sessions and in the signed contract our lands are guaranteed and our inherent rights, liberty and protection from State aggression are reinforced. Yet, we still find ourselves involved in a border issue that has been boiling since before the Mitchell decision was handed down in Canadian federal court; even back to the days of Jake Fire....

  • Time to Walk the Talk

    Doug George Kanentiio|Nov 12, 2009

No Mohawk, wherever they live, should assume that the assault on Steve Barnes was isolated or of no concern to them. The Canadian Border Service Agency has been trained as to how to bring crippling physical force on any Mohawk who dares to defy their commands and assert their rights as Onkwehonwe. They have the mace, the steel cuffs and the firearms. They have the paramilitary uniforms and are hyped up on their own myths. They see the Mohawks as the enemy and have been conditioned to respond to us not as human beings but as cartoons. For this...

  • Always Tired? A Checklist to Discuss With Your Doctor

    Nov 12, 2009

It is indicated by several medical associations that the number one reason that people will go to see their doctor is because they are tired. Being tired, however, can be the result of numerous medical conditions, as well as lifestyle circumstances. It is the job of the family doctor to create a ‘list’ of possible causes of the fatigue (tiredness) in the case of each individual patient. With this ‘shopping list’ of possible causes, the doctor can then begin ‘scratching off’ each possibility from the shopping list through proper testing (bl...

  • Sweet and natural

    Nov 12, 2009

With adult and childhood obesity now a national concern, parents need to be on the lookout for processed sugars that sneak into family foods, from cereals to condiments.Refined sugar has no upside other than its flavor; it contains no fiber, no minerals, no proteins, no fats, no enzymes, and has a glycemic (GI) index of 65, which is high. (GI index measures how much your blood glucose increases after eating a particular food.) So the next time a recipe calls for sugar, experiment with one of the many natural alternatives; some have fewer or eve...
