All of us here at Iakhihsohtha would like to thank everyone who helped make the holiday season so very special for the Totas. Despite the 2 week closure we were up and running before Christmas. With the monies that were raised from our 2017 Trivia Fundraiser, Iakhihsohtha was able to make the Tota's holiday season so very special. (January 16, 2018) The A’nowara’ko:wa Arena fall and winter season is almost completed. Our Akwesasne Wolves and Women’s Wild are first place teams heading for playoffs soon. Our host team the Cornwall Nationals, who practice three times a week here, are also in first place. Sekon, Hello: At the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal meeting on Saturday, January 6th, I was sitting next to a Tribal employee. He asked me if I attended the residency meetings. I told him yes. He then told me he was more concerned with the loss of the Mohawk Language. Shouldn’t they go together…If the population of the Mohawk people slowly dwindles doesn’t that mean the same for the language. The kids had a few laughs while learning about a couple of timeless classics. The DuffleBag Theatre group paid a visit to the St. Regis Mohawk School last week bringing with them productions of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Robin Hood. The theatre troupe does improvisation using members from the audience to play the various characters. Shekon, Our children are our future! Sadly, one of the greatest threats to their future is child obesity. As you know, I completed the 2017 Quebec City Marathon (26.2 miles) and raised $3,800 to combat child obesity in Akwesasne. The Constitution Pipeline project is on hold after its petition was denied Thursday, January11, 2018 by the Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC). After being denied permits by New York State last year, the Constitution Pipeline had attempted to have the decision overturned on a federal level.
