And TJ and the band "To Memphis and Back" surely made them fans. The event was a benefit to raise money for the Akwesasne Winter Carnival, which the Snye Recreation is putting on this year. Kudos to the Snye Rec for coming up with such an awesome idea as January 8th was Elvis's birthday, which made it the perfect...

Nothing new for the Iroquois in New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2014 State of the State address delivered on January 8 in Albany. The State will continue to pretend the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy does not exist. He deliberately did not invite the legitimate representatives of the Confederacy to the State Capitol since it would require him to acknowledge that the Grand Council of the Haudenosaunee does indeed speak on behalf of the majority of the 80,000 plus Iroquois. Cuomo carefully chose the weakest cultural and political links a...

BY ROSEMARY BONAPARTE A few years ago I wrote some articles for Indian Time and called them Senior Moments. I wrote about funny (or odd) things that were happening to me and other people. Some of the other people have even forgiven me. Well, lately things have been happening and no one else mentions them so I thought I’d try again. Last night, on Elvis’ birthday, there was a concert starring T. J. Jackson singing Elvis songs. It was sponsored by the Winter Carnival committee. It was excellent. I don’t think Elvis himself ever sang as many...

Reprinted from Legends of the Iroquois By Tehanetorens Continued from last week Following each other single file, they left the clearing and disappeared up the runway from where they had come. The big chief rabbit waited until the last rabbit had left the clearing. Then, giving a final thump, he too hopped up the rabbit trail and was soon lost to view. The two boys were very surprised at what they had seen. Quickly they returned to the hunting camp where they told their father what they had seen. Their father laughed and said that they were...
