    The Twin Leaf Express convenience store, diner and gas bar in Fort Covington, NY has become an issue of controversy for Ft. Covington town officials. The store’s manager, William Black, was named in a criminal summons last week ordering him to appear in town court on Jan. 11. The store’s lawyer, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, and members of the Akwesasne community disagree with the town’s belief that it has authority over the store.     An Akwesasne man was charged with possessing 500 tablets of a pill believed to be Ecstasy during an undercover operation in Massena, on January 4 Brian Jacobs, 23 and Kurt Terrance, 21, were reportedly meeting with undercover police at the Super 8 Motel in Massena, NY.     The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne has passed the halfway mark in their 2009-2012 term of office. To date this Council has seen the close of some long term projects like the Old Age Security file and Kawehno:ke/Easterbrook land claim which are both on the cusp of being completed. Closing out those old files has been just one of the many other areas that Council has been working on over the past year and a half.     An Akwesasne teenager was sentenced to jail this week on two charges in two separate counties. On Monday, a Franklin County Judge sentenced Jacob Stehlin, 19 to 1-3 years in jail for having sex with an underage girl(3rd degree rape) in Hogansburg in 2010. Stehlin had previously been released on probation for a St. Lawrence County arson that occurred in the town of Norfolk in 2008.     Again this year the Office for the Aging was able to purchase and distribute 600 Emergency Food Boxes throughout Franklin County. Each box contains 14 meals which have a safe shelf life of 6 months to bring the recipients of the boxes through the worst winter weather.
