When you think about it, New Year’s resolutions are out of sync with the “take it one-day-at-a-time” Twelve Step philosophy. At the old year’s end, we promise ourselves that next year, we will be better, do more, and eat less. We strive for improvement, even perfection, thinking that we will be happy and content if only we can achieve the often out-of-reach goals we set for ourselves. As is often said at Twelve Step meetings, “There are two days in every week we have no control over: yesterday and tomorrow. Today is the only day we can chang...
This belt is sometimes called the Seven Nations Belt. It is a record belt, that is, it records a happening. It means this: Their path is not straight. They have forsaken the Great Law and gone to the land of the cross, Canada. This belt represents the union of the Seven Nations, and the crooked line at the bottom represents that they were crooked (Roman Catholic). This particular belt embodies the pledge of the seven Canadian Christianized nations to abandon their crooked ways and to keep an...

WELCOME 113TH CONGRESS, THE MOST DIVERSE IN U.S. HISTORY The start of a new session in Congress is good news, especially after the 112th Congress earned a spot in history as the most unproductive session ever. But what’s even more exciting is that this session of Congress is the most diverse in American history. The diversity in the new, 113th Congress includes more minorities, women, religions, sexual orientations, and backgrounds than ever. Included in the new members was the first Buddhist to be elected to the Senate, as well as the first Hi...
FEDERAL COURT GRANTS RIGHTS TO MÉTIS, NON-STATUS INDIANS January 8 - The Federal Court has ruled Metis and non-status Indians are indeed “Indians” under a section of the Constitution Act, and fall under federal jurisdiction. The decision helps to clarify the relationship between Ottawa and the more than 600,000 aboriginal people who live off-reserve. While the decision does not go so far as to declare that the federal government has a fiduciary responsibility to the group, it says such duties would flow automatically now that their stan...
I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. I know my boys did. Big brother had been counting down the days until Christmas break for two weeks before it arrived. All he wanted to do was stay home, sleep in and stay home some more--the ultimate homebody. Little brother is our bundle of chaos, who aside from loving to stay by our side, really loves to use all floor space for his little projects and playtimes. Of course we have to almost fight with him to pick up his stuff after he loses interest. Christmas Eve came with the boys being so excited...
