  • Extreme Winter Weather: The Polar Vortex and Lake Effect Snow

    Jan 9, 2014

A prolific band of lake-effect snow coming off Lake Ontario between Syracuse and Watertown reportedly carries snowfall rates of over 2” per hour. This band could fluctuate slightly north or south some, but should stay in the same general area. Additional accumulations within this band could be 2 to 3 feet if it stays relatively stable, but that would be in a narrow area. If the band fluctuates a bit more than expected amounts would be lower, likely 1 to 2 feet, but over a wider area. This after the extreme cold in the recent days. A w...

  • Last Minute Lady

    An Anonymous Mom|Jan 9, 2014

I have always been about time management. I hate being late, it is a pet peeve of mine. Even though I feel that way, I tend to be late for so many things and appointments it’s frustrating. In the morning I get up extra early to make sure I have time to get the boys and myself ready before we leave the house for work and school. Something always happens to us though. We will be on time right down to the minute. Then the dog runs away and I’m chasing him through the yard trying to herd him back into the house so he doesn’t freeze all day. The w...

  • Build a Backyard Skating Rink and Enjoy the Snow

    Jan 9, 2014

For those of us with snow piled all around us, winter can be a time to stay in the house and wait for spring but it doesn't have to be. Why not use all the snow to have fun and one of the best ways to do that is to build yourself a skating rink. It can be in your backyard or even in your driveway. Find a flat area close enough that your garden hose can reach. Stomp on the snow in that area to pack it down. Have the kids run around on it. Once packed, knock off the high points and fill in the holes with a shovel so that it's somewhat flat. Sprin...
