The Kanienkehaka Krunch JV Field Lacrosse Team won the Dick’s Tournament of Champions Rising Stars Division held in Wesley Chapel, Florida Jan. 2-4. The team went undefeated and became the talk of the tournament. Before the start of each game or new bracket the boys proudly sang and danced the traditional Stomp Dance side by side honoring their heritage for all to see. A new fall field lacrosse club called the “Kanienkehaka Krunch” has been formed in Akwesasne. The club was formed by local parents and volunteers who all wanted to keep local youth active in field lacrosse, and who want to keep youth occupied with sports, not drugs or alcohol. The club consists of three divisions, a Modified, Junior Varsity and a Varsity team, ranging from ages from 8-18, with approximately 60 athletes participating. Best of luck and congratulations to the Akwesasne Storm Midget Lacrosse Team, who will be participating in the Midget “A” provincials which will be held at the Ontario Summer Games in Ottawa, Ontario August 14-16, 2008. This year the team was rated in the “A” division of lacrosse, playing the best “A” teams of Ontario. Over the past month the team has competed in the standard 2 qualifiers, which consists of 13 top teams of Ontario all trying to get to the final eight teams competing in the “A” provincials.
