Mary is well known and respected by so many people and we are definitely honored to hear her words about parts of her life. She was born August 25, 1927 to Thomas and Louise Zachary Herne on the southern portion of Ahkwesahsne. Katsitsientha Ella Louise (David) Cook provided such a welcoming visit at her home this week and shared many pieces of her life. Saturday night’s game was at the Massena Arena with the home team Akwesasne Warriors playing against the Cape Cod Bluefins. With only a few minutes into the third period, the Cape Cod Bluefins and the Akwesasne Warriors found themselves involved in the biggest bench brawl of the season. The game between Massena and Malone was a very intense and close game with a lot of back and forth running for each side. The game ended after two 3-minute overtime periods with Malone netting the final shot just as the buzzer rang. It was so close and exciting as the audience watched and cheered their favorite team on. On Friday and Saturday, the Akwesasne Warriors hosted the Danbury Whalers and regained their wins to jump back into third place in the Federal Hockey League standings. They are only seven points away from the top placed 1000 Island and New Jersey. Minnie reached the age of 100 years on September 16, 2011. She grew up with seven siblings Annie, Mary Jane, Joe, Catherine, Raphael, Peter and Toby. Their parents were Ohontsiio and Nancy (Beauvais) Peters. Minnie is the only survivor of her family and her present home is at Tsiionkwanonhso:te on Kawehno:ke.
