    It couldn't have been a better day for the first annual Heart to Heart 9K Walk & Run held on Saturday September 27, 2014. Roger Allen, Heart to Heart Fitness Center's General Manager, organized the race.   • Elders Lobbying Tribe for Casino Money

    A group of elders have been meeting for months with the purpose of starting an Elders Benefit Program. The program would look to “assist our Elders in achieving and/or maintaining financial stability for their health, education and welfare.” The committee is proposing a $200 monthly benefit to be paid quarterly to all living eligible elders, which are defined as enrolled voting elders who are at least 62 years old.   • Mother and Daughter are Highland Greens Club Champions

    The Highland Greens Golf Course Club Championship tournament was held on August 23, 2014. It is an annual tournament between all club members and this year Diane Boots and Leona Cook took the Championship title in their respective categories. Diane Boots won the Women's Club Championship, and her mother Leona Cook was the Women's Super Senior Club Champion.     It was a warm Sunday evening when the archers donned their bows at Generations Park. The Akwesasne Archery Club has been meeting since mid July and will continue, hopefully and weather permitting, until the end of October. Kenny King and Arnold Printup, who have practiced archery for years, are the founders, and this is the first year they put the club together.   • Kanatakon School Practices Bus Safety

    On Friday, the Kanatakon School held a bus safety assembly and drill for students. In the gym, transportation staff went over emergency and evacuation procedures students should follow in case of an event like a fire or if the bus tips on its side. Transportation staff went over the five rules of the bus, showing examples and the importance of why each rule must be followed. Their motto, "Safety is a must when you ride the bus!"     On Saturday, September 13, Iakhihsohtha held a Volunteer Appreciation Day. It is the first event of its kind, and went from 8am to 8pm starting with a big breakfast and the Drew's Crew Cloggers. The assembly was held to congratulate everyone on the great job they did during the evacuation drill, introduce Tribal Police officers and emphasize the school's motto Sken:nen Ratiha:wi.     About a year ago we brought you a story about Bridget Thompson writing four books. At that point she was raising money to get them published, they were just pages in binders. Now they are published! The four children's books, geared for ages 5-12 are titled, "You're Perfect Just the Way You Are," "Love Doesn't Hurt," "This is My Body" and "Drugs Aren't Fun."     Over the weekend there was quite a scene at the community garage sale on Rt. 37. Apparently a swarm of hundreds of bees just suddenly dropped dead.     On August 18 and 19, a girl's lacrosse camp was held at Generations Park. The Akwesasne Varsity Elite Skills Camp was put on by Akwesasne Attack in conjunction with Syracuse University(SU) players. Over 20 girls attended the camp.     The 2014 Cedar View Golf Club (CVGC) Club Championships were held on August 9 and 10. Sixty Golfers competed in what is the big annual competition for Club members.     On Tuesday, July 29, 2014, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new lacrosse box at Generations Park. The lacrosse box was dedicated to Travis Solomon, a man who left an immeasurable impact on the sport of lacrosse in many communities.
