    Last Thursday night the Massena Red Raider boys played host to the Salmon River Shamrocks under the lights. Both teams had opened their NAC 2011 season with victories earlier in the week. Salmon came out fast and furious to lead 9-1 by the end of the first quarter and 17-2 by halftime. The final score of 24-5 gave Salmon River their second win of the season.     On Thursday March 31st, the Massena Lady Red Raiders lacrosse team opened up their NAC season with a victory over the Canton Lady Bears with a score of 18-7. At halftime the Lady Raiders led by a score of 11-5. Kylie Buckshot led the team with 5 goals, 2 assists followed by Erin Francis with 4 goals. Shaydi Oakes contributed 3 goals and 2 assists.     On Tuesday March 29 the Massena Red Raider Boys Lacrosse team opened the season with a 19 – 2 win over OFA. Senior attackman Randy Seymour led the way with 10 goals and 6 assists.     Last Friday night the place to be was at the Jerry Welsh gymnasium in Maxcy Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus. Here is where the Class ‘C’ and Class ‘A’ girls basketball champions squared off to be crowned the Section 10 Overall Champions.     The Massena Lady Raiders and the M-W Lady Yellowjackets met in the section 10 overall semifinal at SUNY Potsdam’s Maxcy Hall. The Lady Raiders were able to hold off a second and third quarter surge by the Class ‘C” Champions Yellowjackets to win 44-32.     The Massena Red Raider girl’s basketball team avenged their regular season losses to the Malone Huskies by defeating them 45 to 31 in the Class “A” final. The Lady Raider zone defense was able to hold Malone’s leading scorer, Brittany Marshall, to 4 points. Coach Matejcik credited the win to an entire team effort.     The Massena Raider Boys played host to the Canton Bears in a Central Division Basketball contest last Tuesday night. The Raiders enjoyed “retro” night by defeating the Bears 68-31.
