This spring there will be some new coaching faces on Salmon River’s playing fields and the on track. Shawn Martin will be taking the helm of the track and field team with the assistance of Kim Russell. They are taking over the reins from long time coach Danny Mainville. Martin and Russell are well experienced in the SRCS running programs. The Lady Red Raiders and the Malone Lady Huskies battled for the Section 10 Class A title at SUNY Potsdam’s Jerry Walsh Gymnasium. Massena held on to claim a 47-41 victory and advance to the semi finals of the Section 10 Overall crown against Hammond Central. The Red Raiders Boys hockey squad methodically shutout a well prepared Canton team, 4-0, in the Division 1 Semi Finals. The Red Raiders chipped away at the Bears each period with the first goal being scored at 8:51 in the first period by Conner Dix off a play by Brantly Adams. The Lady Raiders basketball team pulled away to 52-30 victory at home over Gouverneur to claim a share of the Central Division banner. Massena closes out its regular season with a 7-1 record and puts them in the top spot along with the Malone Lady Huskies. The Lady Raiders had just come off a great win over Franklin Academy and hoped to avenge their previous loss to the Lady Shamrocks.
