On Tuesday October 16th the Salmon River varsity boys soccer team won their first Central Division game of the season with a convincing 6-0 win over Gouverneur. Last Friday night saw a repeat of the Friday before as the Raiders won a post-season match against Canton Central at the Mike Nicolas Field. The Raiders won 48-14 on October 12th and played the Golden Bears a week later in a post-season game and won with a score of 41-7.The Raiders led 21-0 at half time and kept the momentum going until the end. On Saturday, the Salmon River Boys Varsity soccer team traveled to the Massena turf field to finish the 30th Annual Bill O’Neill Memorial Tournament. The tourney had to be postponed from an earlier date due to poor weather conditions. In a previous game, Salmon and Massena had played to a tie but had to go to a shootout to determine which team would continue on to the championship game. These days just about everyone has been affected in some way by cancer. Last Saturday a group of student-athletes were able to pay tribute to those whose lives have been cut short because of this disease. The Salmon River Cross Country course was to host to an NAC meet that saw the Canton girls and Franklin Academy boys set the pace for the Section 10 runners. The start of another school year brings the start of another fall sports season. Salmon River is in full swing with boys and girls soccer, swimming and girls volleyball teams working hard to develop and improve on their skills in hopes of a winning season.
