Salmon River's Taylor Francis and Jaiden Mitchell each scored a team-high 11 points each, but it wasn't enough to overcome rival Chateaugay's high scoring offense in the 61-36 win over the Lady Shamrocks. The Lady Shamrocks (4-6) worked hard to keep the score close but the Lady Bulldogs steadily pulled away, leading 35-21 at the half. Kaylin Oakes was a welcomed addition to the team. The Salmon River girls' basketball team had the ability to make the game interesting. What it didn't have was time. The Raiders came out in the second half to work and pulled ahead, 39-26, by the end of the third quarter. While we all love a great pair of heels, blinged out jewels and a cute purse as we approach a new season in fashion, nothing goes better with any ensemble, be it couture, trendy or cultural, than a big generous heart. The fashionistas of Akwesasne showed their generous hearts by attending the Christmas Candyland Charity Fashion Show on December 19th at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. While the average 15-year-old is enjoying life, attending high school and looking forward to getting her driving...

The term "holiday giving" has great meaning in Akwesasne, and it's something local residents take seriously. If you stopped by the old IGA last Friday for the main day event you saw a building full of people taking time out of their day to donate money, toys, food, or to be put in the " kindness" jailhouse and wait to be bailed out, all for families experiencing hard times. The Akwesasne Basket Drive and Mountain of Toys has been giving out holiday baskets for 17 years with the help of many...
