Last Thursday was a gorgeous day with the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing. It was the perfect day to end the golf season at the Senior Ladies Ryder Cup Golf Tournament at Cedar View in Massena for the wonderful ladies who have been golfing all summer long. Numerous running/biking enthusiasts met at the new Generations Park and Senior Center behind the Tribal Police Station Aug. 19. to take part in the first annual Hogansburg Run/Bike/Run Duathlon. The Akwesasne Cultural Museum is home to the history of the Mohawk people at Akwesasne and this past Aug. 10 - 14 paid homage to the living culture by hosting an annual Smoke Dance Class. The class is taught by Cheyanne Doxtador and Frank Phillips, who have been teaching Smoke Dance at the museum now for the past three seasons. The sun was beaming and so were the seniors at the annual Senior Picnic this past Friday outside the lawn of Tsi Tetewatatkens (the Office for the Aging) just off route 37. Wellness Day is a day to provide education on disease prevention and to promote healthy activities and habits for the wellbeing of Akwesasne residents. This year’s Wellness Day celebration was held for the second time at the First Americans IGA on Route 37.
