The Akwesasne Jr. A Indians staved off elimination in game 5 at home and forced a game 6 to go in Burlington on Tuesday. A convincing 12-4 victory over the Burlington Chiefs on Sunday swung the momentum of the series back in Akwesasne’s favour. “That’s the first game this series where we played an entire 60 minutes, “ commented head coach Adam Thompson. “Joe [Tallis] was huge for us in nets and the offence clicked for us.” The series has been mired in controversy as after getting a win in game...

    Kyle Lowry|Jul 10, 2008

One day after losing for the first time at the Turtle this year, 8-6 to Burlington, the Akwesasne Indians showcased their double-D’s in getting a 7-0 win over Brampton the very next day. The aforementioned double-D’s were defense and Delormier as the goaltender was stellar in stopping 42 shots for the rare shutout. “It was all Justin to preserve that shutout, especially late, he made 3 saves on odd-man rushes that were just huge,” reflected head coach Adam Thompson. Brampton looked completely frustrated the entire game as the Indians defense...

    Kyle Lowry|Jun 19, 2008

The players and coaches said before the game that this was their test. After getting an F in the first period, and a C in the second period they pulled together their best 20 minutes of the season for an A in the third period. In the end it wasn’t enough, as they couldn’t erase the 7-1 and 8-3 deficits they faced against the Six Nations Arrows Express after the first and second periods. Six Nations wound up with a 9-8 win. “The guys showed a lot of character and heart to come back after that first period…I just told them (after the 2nd) th...

    Kyle Lowry|Jun 12, 2008

The A’nowa’korowa arena doubled as an oven this past weekend, but the Jr. A Indians battled and found a way to get a big 4 pts. “It’s not too bad (the heat), you get used to it once your out there a little while,” said team captain Jeremy Thompson sitting in front of a giant fan with a block of ice on his head. Saturday night saw the visiting Orillia Rama-Hammond Kings come to town. The Kings however proved to be little opposition as the Indians disposed of them 12-4. Kyle Buchanan put up th...

    Kyle Lowry|Jun 5, 2008

The Akwesasne Jr. A Indians managed 13 goals over their weekend trip. Unfortunately, only one of them came on Saturday night in St. Catharines. The Indians followed a brutal 7 -1 loss to the Athletics Saturday night with a gutsy 12-10 win in Brampton against the Excelsiors on Sunday afternoon. The team now finds itself third in the league behind two undefeated teams, the Six Nations Arrows Express and the Orangeville Northmen. Akwesasne’s own undefeated streak was snapped at 6 games. Although the team wasn’t making excuses, a long bus ride and...

    Kyle Lowry|May 29, 2008

Lacrosse fans got a treat last Friday. After struggling to score most of the game, the Akwesasne Indians scored 3 times, (4 depending on who you ask) to get a point out of the Peterborough Lakers. The game was a defensive battle for the most part as both goalies were outstanding. After 2 periods the Lakers held a 4-3 lead. Scoring for Akwesasne was Jeremy Thompson with a pair and Mac Mitchell a goal of his own. However, the Lakers jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the third and looked like...
