4 was very productive. With the help of the community, C.A.T.S. was able to provide spay and neuter for 28 females and 37 males for a total of 65 this year. Thirty (30) of them were strays, including a pregnant female. A big THANK YOU goes to those who made time to bring them to the vet even though they were not their pets; it made a big difference. C.A.T.S. (Cats Are Treated Sensibly) is a FREE spay and neuter program initiated by Jean Laffin of Akwesasne and Lois Lancette of Fort Covington back in 2008. This program assists in reducing an overpopulation of cats in Akwesasne and Fort Covington and is available also to cats’ caretakers with employment in the two communities.
