On August 7th, 2017 the Peace Tree Trade Center celebrated its 25th anniversary with the community. The Department of Economic Development hosted the celebration, while the participating businesses located at the Peace Tree Trade Center also made it fun for everyone. On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, the 6th annual breastfeeding walk took place at the Generations Park. This year was different, as it was a breastfeeding poker walk. Registration took place at 5:00-5:30 pm, with a meal provided at 6:00 pm. Participants had the opportunity to visit the different programs that were set up. On Friday, August 4th, 2017 the Korean Cultural Exchange hosted their final banquet at Generations Park. The event was the final presentation and gathering after a full week of activities and festivities. The Korean Cultural Exchange arrived in Akwesasne on Monday, July 31st, and stayed the entire week. On Saturday August 5th, 2017 the American Legion Post 1479 held their 3rd Annual Homemade Raft Race. The day started with registration beginning at 11 am, at the old cheese factory area with a $10 registration fee to participate. Rafts had to be homemade with no motors. The homemade rafts were either racers or floaters, the racers had to have a team of 4 individuals 21 or over. There were several pit stops along the river with games for the teams to play. The day began at 11am with musical entertainment and food and craft vendors set up throughout the NNATC grounds. On July 25th, 2017 Salmon River Central School invited press and media to come and check out their new and improved auditorium. The tour started in the auditorium itself, with William "Bill" Seward, the audiovisual technician giving the tour. Swamp's Performance held their 5th Annual Cruisin' for Kids Car & Bike Show which took place at the old IGA parking lot, on July 22nd 2017. The event began at approximately 10 am with the car and bike registration. There were also a number of vendors set up for the event. Each vehicle had to pay a $5.00 registration fee, which allowed the owner of the vehicles to be entered into a contest for top 10 cars or top 3 bikes. On Monday July 17th, 2017 the Ontario Power Generation Center hosted an unveiling event on behalf of the mural painted by John B Thomas of Akwesasne. The mural was completed last year and has been on display since. The event was the official recognition of the artist who created such a beautiful piece of art for everyone to enjoy. On July 6th an opening ceremony was held at the A'nowara'ko:wa Arena for the 'Sexual Assault: The Roadshow' a travelling, pop-up, participatory art gallery in a shipping container. There was another community focus meeting at the Anowarakowa Arena in regards to the Kawehnoke Corridor project on June 26, 2017. The meeting began around 6:00 pm, with a dinner provided to community members who attended the meeting. Team Haudenosaunee and their sponsors put together a Family Fun Day on July 4th at the Kateri Hall from 10 am to 5 pm. The Cornwall Collegiate Vocational School held its Grade 12 graduation ceremony on June 28th, 2017 at 7:00 pm. On June 20th, 2017 Sheree Bonaparte celebrated the grand opening of her shop, 'Ionkwanikonhriiosne'. The store was a dream of hers for years; it took a lot of patience and determination for the shop to become a reality for her. On June 22, 2017, a group of individuals gathered at the four corners on Kawehnoke, to raise funds to fix the longhouse that they love. It was brought to people's attention that the roof needs to be fixed. It only took a handful of individuals who attend the longhouse one day to raise over $4,000.
