On Friday, July 27, 2018, the Akwesasne Cultural Center & Museum held its last children's basket class. The class was the last in a series of five classes held throughout the two weeks prior. On Sunday, July 15th community members gathered at the "Old Cheese Factory" in Hogansburg to help out a great cause. The Rumble on the River Poker Run, with kayaks and canoes, was organized to benefit the Akwesasne Cancer Support Group. The Akwesasne Cultural Center has recently wrapped up another successful basket making class taught by Denise Jock. The last class took place on June 25th, with a potluck and students showcasing their finished projects. Hundreds of people gathered at the Wild Center, located in Tupper Lake N.Y, to join the "Ways of Knowing" Celebration on July 7th. The Akwesasne Cancer Support Group held their annual 5K Run and Walk, in celebration of their 10th Anniversary. Akwesasne was host to the 31st Annual Ontario Native Fire Fighters Society Conference & Competition, which took place at the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort.
