A Black Friday CKON radio promotion paid off well for the annual Christmas Basket/Mountain of Toys event held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the former IGA building on Route 37. The Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Departments, the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance Unit and the three Recreation Centers all received early gifts to kick off the Holiday Season. Teaming building and conflict resolution were the two main goals to be achieved by training offered to CKON employees by Kyle Blanchfield. Ms. Blanchfield is a lawyer, mediator and educator and, for a time, a judge who worked with some New York State Tribes on family issues. Today, she continues to educate students on mediation techniques at St. Lawrence University and offers workplace mediation training to various organizations. The CKON Loyal Listener’s Appreciation Day was a success according to several participants at the event. “It’s so nice to think about something other than the passing of our community members,” said one community member. Another community member added, “It is so nice to bring the community together like this.” Indeed, everybody who attended the event appeared to enjoy themselves and for a change the weather cooperated. CKON Radio is ready to kick off Labor Day weekend with a Loyal Listener’s Appreciation Day to be held at the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department on Route 37 in Akwesasne on Saturday, August 31.
