Like all late season local ball tournaments played on fields without lights, this Sixth Annual tournament was played at night. Nevertheless the championship game between the Saints and Bitter N' Bones had an exciting finish as Bitter N' Bones had a late inning rally to win 13-12. The AMCR Associate Kickball League meets every Monday and Thursday at the American Legion in Hogansburg. The 2017 season ended last week in dramatic fashion and almost in pitch darkness. Last weekend I'd Tap That and War Party played till dusk. The game was tied 9-9 at the bottom of the sixth inning, but at dusk, I'd Tap That broke it open with four runs in the top of the seventh to hold onto the win. The Positive Place for Kids and Teens wrapped up their busy summer last week. They had fun while learning more about their culture. Lawn sales can contain hidden treasures. At one particular lawn sale on Kawehnoke a small treasure with a big future was found. Kiawentiio Tarbell is a seventh grader at the Akwesasne Freedom School and she has many talents. At the family lawn sale in July she was selling several pieces of original art she had made. With the summer break half over the students were kept plenty busy during this break. The recreation centers at Tsi Snaihne and Kawehnoke open their doors for students to play, learn, make new friends and generally get away from the X-Box over these long hot summer days. Local kayaking enthusiasts you see here and there along the local waters got a chance to band together last week and get together for their love of the sport. Different Nations came together last weekend in celebration of song and dance at the 27th annual event held on the Kahnawake territory. The temperatures in the 80's did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds as they cheered on the different competitors from all age groups. It had all the markings of a St. Regis Braves blowout but a late third period surge by the Tyendinaga Thunderbirds turned it into a close Three Nations Lacrosse League Senior game. Final score 16-13. All year the students at Kanatakon school have been logging miles in the gym and last week they got rewarded for their efforts. The school had a yearlong Walking to China program. They did daily laps in their gym and the miles they logged were equal to the distance to China.
