With 45 days left, the Snye Recreation is starting to look a lot like Christmas. The Annual Christmas Enchantment is this weekend and this past week the Snye Recreation Hall is taking shape for the big event. It was windy and cold and later raining, but that didn't dampen the spirits of students of the St. Regis Mohawk School as they held their annual Halloween Parade on Halloween Day. In addition to the march to show off their costumes, the school held a giant pumpkin contest and the kids guessed how much it weighed. It was a couple of tough losses for the Wolves hockey program. Last Monday on Kawehno:ke the Charlan Rebels defeated the Akwesasne Novice B team 6-3. Teiowisatenion Herne scored twice in the loss, with Roman Castell scoring the other goal. Wade Francis picked up two assists. The Ice Pigs added another win to their undefeated season with a big 7-0 win over The Club. In an earlier game the Chiefs defeated Open Net/Ole Smokehouse 2-1. The CISL now has more representation from Akwesasne as the Stars and Lady Devils are joined by the Akwesasne Wolves. That new team is composed of former Lady Devils and Stars players as well as local women who had joined Cornwall teams in the past. Local schools got into the dress up spirit a week before Halloween to support Red Ribbon week, an initiative to tell the kids to say no to drugs. Every day this week students are encouraged to wear red one day, wear funny hair the next and to wear their favorite jersey with other themes to follow throughout the week. The Anowarako:wa Arena was freezing cold as the ice is in the process of being installed for hockey. Outside of the arena it was crazy hot as the women took to the field for lacrosse.
