    AKWESASNE — An Akwesasne woman will spend 1 ½ to three years in state prison for pretending her toddler had cancer and collecting donations for the child. Jennifer Jackson-Laughing was sentenced Friday, on her 35th birthday, on a charge of first-degree scheming to defraud. Franklin County Court Judge Robert G. Main Jr. also ordered her to pay $8,470 in restitution. Jackson-Laughing and her husband, Frank W.     AKWESASNE — The defense has made a motion that a grand-larceny charge be dropped against a Hogansburg man accused of taking land from its deeded owner. And it is using a pending U.S. Court of Appeals case to bolster its argument, in hopes that, one day, Indian land-claim issues will be heard by U.S. Supreme Court justices.     FORT COVINGTON — No one was hurt when a Fort Covington home was sprayed with bullets during a drive-by shooting at about 3:30 a.m. Monday.     AKWESASNE — A state gaming supervisor at Akwesasne Mohawk Casino faces disciplinary action for accepting gifts from patrons and selling Girl Scout cookies to employees. Edward Hawks, a supervising gaming inspector for the New York State Racing and Wagering Board, admitted to state investigators that he accepted miniature cigars from casino gamblers and a clock, two used bar stools and a windbreaker from slot-machine vendors.
