    Mother’s Day was celebrated at the Senior Center on Fri. May 10th with a delicious meal, an apron contest and dancing. The afternoon started with hors d’oeuvres and visiting. The staff prepared a delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings and volunteers served everyone.   • Proposed Grasse River Superfund Site Clean Up Remedy

    A Public Information Session was held on May 7th at the St. Regis Mohawk School to discuss the ‘Selected Remedy’ to deal with the polluted 7.2 mile stretch of the Grasse River. Mr. Walter Mugdan, Director of Emergency & Remedial Response Division of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) explained the pilot studies and the EPA proposed plan.     An impressive crowd filled the Seniors Center on Tuesday for the “Let’s Face It! Working Together to End Sexual Violence” workshop. In fact, so many people showed it left organizers scrambling for seating, but that certainly wasn’t a problem, is was inspiring to see that many people come out for the event recognizing April as sexual assault awareness month.   • Akwesasne Canoeists Boots and Printup in Raisin River Canoe Race

    The 41st Annual Raisin River Canoe Race is the longest paddling event in Eastern Ontario and was held Sunday, April 14th 2013. The 24 kilometer (16 mile) race started in St. Andrews West at 11:00am and finished in Williamstown at 2:00pm. It took Bruce Boots and Arnold Printup III, 2:58:46 minutes to place 35th out of 153 overall. They raced in the Men’s Recreation category and they beat last year’s time of 3:07:09.     The Parent and Family Involvement Committee at the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School thought it was time for parents and children to have some fun. On Friday, March 29th, families were treated to a delicious spaghetti dinner prepared by Darius White (the Head Cook at AMS) and then the Akwesasne Coalition Committee ran the ‘Minute to Win It’ Family Challenge.   • New Kateri Statue

    On Monday, Sept. 17th, the Kateri Hall in Hogansburg got a new statue. Community members went to Fonda, NY to pick up the statue from the Kateri Shrine. The Kateri Circle was able to purchase the 800-pound statue from their fundraising money. Stop over at the Kateri Hall to see the new statue, it rests on a base donated by Thomas and Jessie Diebow on April 19, 1965 and reads ’Kateri Tekakwitha “Lily of the Mohawks” 1656-1680’....

    The Wall-Vietnam Memorial arrives in Akwesasne ‘The Wall – Vietnam Memorial’ arrived in Akwesasne on Thursday, July 19th at the American Legion Post #1479. Many volunteers worked for weeks preparing the grounds. The day started at sunrise with Todd Conners, Bucky Leaf and Gary Burnham starting a sacred fire.   • The Moving Wall Coming to Akwesasne

    For the first time ever, The Moving Wall will arrive in Akwesasne at the American Legion Post #1479 on Thursday, July 19th. The Border Eagle Riding Motorcycle Club will escort it from the corner of Main and Orvis St. in Massena starting at 10 a.m. Volunteers and construction crews have been working hard to prepare for the arrival of the 260-foot wall.     July 14, 2012 - On a very hot Saturday night at the Massena Arena, the Snake Island Muskies defeated Montreal Phoenix with a score of 15-11. After 3 periods of play the score was tied 11-11. The Muskies scored 3 more in overtime for the win. Scoring for the Muskies were: Mitch Barnard with 2 goals, Joe Hall with 4 goals, Ryan Jacobs 1 goal, Trent Jacobs 3 goals, Mac Mitchell and Curry Rice each had 1 goal and Jason Thompson had 3 goals.     Arnold Printup III and Bruce Boots competed again this year in the 40th Annual Raisin River Canoe Race, the longest paddling event in Eastern Ontario on April 22, 2012. They started paddling the 24 kilometers (16 miles) in St. Andrews West and finished in Williamstown. But they didn’t just paddle, they had to survive the rapids and shoot at the Martintown dam.     April 21st was the day to celebrate Earth Day in Akwesasne. The annual seed and tree giveaway was a total success, despite it being very cold and rainy. It was held at the SRMT Office of the Aging Senior’s Center in Hogansburg and started at 9am.     These hot air balloons were part of the Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off 2011 festival held July 14-17 in Lamoreaux Park, Cornwall. Word on the street is that some of the balloons landed at the Generations Field and the St. Regis Mohawk School in Tekahson’karo:renhs during the festival. Many Akwesasronon were present at the festival itself in Cornwall, while those enjoying the beautiful weather over the weekend were able to watch the balloon progress in the sky....
