Tsi Snaihne School’s fundraising committee and students were selling tickets for a lacrosse-themed Lazy Susan. The Lazy Susan was donated by local artist Tracy King from Akwesasne. Tsi Snaihne School kicked off this year’s reading incentive program with a “KAPOW!” Read Like A Super Hero started on September 14th when students were presented with a free book, Robert Munsch’s “A Promise Is A Promise,” a blank superhero mask to be decorated and a yummy cupcake. Students are encouraged to read 20 minutes a day. All students who reach this goal will be rewarded monthly, as well as at the end of each term. Tsi Snaihne School held its open house on Wednesday, September 26th from 5:00 -7:00pm. Friends and family were invited to meet the childrens’ new teachers for the 2012-2013 school year. On Thursday, April 14th, kindergarten students from AMS and Kanatakon Schools came to Tsi Snaihne School. They were introduced to the grade 1 staff who will be their teacher(s) next year. The principal welcomed them in the school gymnasium and presented them with gifts, they were given a tour of the school and they spent some time in each of the grade 1 classrooms. The Akwesasne Child and Family Services Community Support Workers visited Tsi Snaihne School on Nov. 16 during the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education Bully Prevention and Awareness Week of Nov. 14-18. To honor our veterans that fought for our freedom, Tsi Snaihne School held a Veteran Breakfast on Thursday, November 10th in the school cafeteria. Veterans were invited to enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared by Anita and Tammy Mitchell. Keeping the veterans company were the October students of the month. Tsi Snaihne School students and staff members said thank-you to our bus drivers and monitors by holding a Bus Driver Appreciation Day on May 17, 2011. Ms. Buttons wowed the students with her storytelling ability and magical powers. All of the children were eager to be her assistant for each magical act. On Friday, February 12th, Tsi Snaihne School participated in the Heart & Stroke Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. We raised over $5000.00 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. All 3 AMBE schools participated in the event this year. Students are awarded prizes according to the amount of money they collect. The more money they raised the more prizes they’ll receive. On Tuesday, February 9th, Astrologists Bruce and Alice McClure set up their inflatable planetarium in the school’s gymnasium. They showed students tools that use the stars to tell time and the distance to the North Pole or the Equator. Students then entered the planetarium and were taught many interesting facts about our cosmos.
