    The Massena lacrosse teams each had decent weeks, with each team winning two games and losing one. The varsity girls lacrosse team turned back Northwood Prep and Heuvelton but lost to Canton. On April 24, the squad bested Northwood Prep 10-8 in non-league play. Massena worked up to a 6-2 lead by halftime then played solid defense in the second half to hold on to the game.     Massena's varsity boys lacrosse team's week had them coming back strong after a loss to Salmon River, ending a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the girl's squad motored past Ogdensburg. The softball team had their opening day lead washed away in a rainstorm, but returned to the diamond to claim their next match.     An Akwesasne basketmaker is looking to pass down his craft to an apprentice and will get help from New York state to make it happen. Jack Johnson, who learned the traditional craft from Henry Arquette, a renowned local master basketmaker, will now take Levi Herne under his wing.     After downing Saranac Lake 14-8, Massena boys varsity lacrosse narrowly slid to St. Lawrence and then dropped another game to Bethlehem. Hosting Saranac Lake on April 3, Massena came back from trailing at the half to win by six goals, a day after falling 15-10 to Canton.     Massena girls varsity lacrosse recovered from their season opener loss and kept an even record over the following two games. On April 6, they fashioned an 11-10 win over Indian River at home.     Massena girls and boys lacrosse teams dropped their first Northern Athletic Conference games of the 2017 season. The boys team played a tough 15-10 contest against Canton at the Potsdam High School turf field on April 2.     After two games that were decided by a single goal, the Massena boys varsity hockey team will head to the state semi-finals. On Feb. 27, they defeated Canton 1-0 for their sixth consecutive Section 10 Division I title.     More than a dozen artists went brush-to-brush at the Native North American Traveling College's second Art Battle on Feb. 25 at the St. Regis Mohawk School.
