    Varsity volleyball senior players from around the area got together on Nov. 14 at Massena High School for a friendly end to the 2017 season. The Varsity All-Star game featured several dozen players playing for fun in the high school gym.     Massena varsity girls and boys hockey are preparing to return to the ice for the 2017-18 season. The girls hockey team have a younger roster this year, and Coach Greg Paquin said they are working to fill key defensive roles. “Being so young we will be a work in progress throughout the year as we replace 3 of 4 defensemen and our goalie,” Paquin said in an email.     The Massena varsity football team ended their regular season on a high note and the varsity volleyball team lost their first matchup of the season in the Section 10 title game, but they will continue in state playoffs. On Monday, Oct. 30 at Mike Nichols Field, Massena beat Franco Cite from Ottawa, Ontario 58-18 to close their regular season.     MASSENA -- Native American graduation rates at Massena Central have gone up during a time period where the overall rate went down, the district’s curriculum director told the school board at their Oct. 19 meeting. Native American students graduated at a rate of 81.3 percent last year, up from 75 percent in 2015-16 and 79.4 percent in 2014-15, curriculum director Stephanie Allen said.
